A few days ago, Mark Zuckerberg announced big changes coming to the Facebook that will affect the way we consume data on the platform. The main user concern that drove this change is that business and brands posts are crowding their News Feed making it difficult for them to really make connection with people on their feed (family and friends).

Facebook will give priority to Facebook Profile updates on your News Feed

The first changes you’ll see will be in News Feed, where you can expect to see more from your friends, family and groups.

For a while now, Facebook’s organic post reach has dropped to about 2%; therefore… what are we talking about now? 1%? 0.5%? 😱

All of this has caused major chaos among Facebook Business Page managers including: bloggers and influencers who clearly depend on Facebook traffic to continue to grow their brands. While this update only states changes happening to the Facebook News Feed and you may be thinking; “hmmm… this doesn’t apply to me, I’m rocking my traffic thanks to Instagram” – I encourage you to think twice. Do you know who owns Facebook? If your answer was Facebook or Mark Zuckerberg – you are right! Facebook acquired Instagram on 2012 for 1 billion. Therefore, I am positive that this change will have some sort of effect on the latter platform.

Video, Video, Video… LIVE VIDEO!

For the past 2 or 3 years, video consumption has skyrocketed. Nowadays, creating plain text Facebook updates or simple photo images to go along those updates is not enough. More often people are shifting to video consumption: it’s eye catchy, it’s quick and it stands out from the rest.

Engage. Build Community. Interact.

Gone are the days where you could just broadcast your posts on Facebook. It is clear now that Facebook not only wants you to passively use the platform. They want you to have more meaningful social interactions.

How can you beat the Facebook algorithm?

Have a well-thought-out content strategy. Don’t use the platform to broadcast information only. Create content that’s relevant to your audience, that will make them want to engage in conversation with you –  in return, this will allow the Facebook algorithm to continue to deliver your content to more and more people. However, this is not a one-sided street here; make sure you do the same and interact with relevant content: find something you like? give it a thumbs up, a heart or a laugh. Let’s keep the platform working for us.
